Zetkin became the leading female theorist of socialist emancipation theory and as such helped to formulate the core ideas of socialist feminism. An important medium for her to spread socialist ideas in circles of working class was the socialist women’s journal of the SPD, Die Gleichheit (Equality), which Zetkin edited until 1917.

Clara Zetkin, German feminist, Socialist, and Communist leader, who after World War I played a leading role in the new Communist Party of Germany (Kommunistische Partei Deutschlands; KPD) and the Comintern (Third International). Clara Eissner was educated at the Leipzig Teachers’ College for Women, Clara Zetkin (née Eissner) was born in July 1857 in Wiederau, Saxony, Her father was a schoolmaster and her mother was born to a well-educated middle-class family from Leipzig. Zetkin studied to be a teacher at the Leipzig Teacher’s College for Women. Clara Zetkin was a radical leader in the socialist and feminist movements. Raised in a middle-class family, she married the revolutionary Osip Zetkin and joined the German Social Democratic Party (SPD). In 1896, at an SPD congress, she gave an influential speech on the liberation of working-class Reference documentation for contributors to the Zetkin project. Her parents adhered as much to Lutheran religiosity as to a liberal-humanist worldview and provided their children with the best possible education. Clara Zetkin, née Eissner, was born in 1857 in Wiederau, in the then German Confederation. She would quickly move to Leipzig in 1872, to study at Leipzig Teachers’ College for Women . Clara Zetkin was a female politician active in the Social Democratic Party of Germany. She believed in Marxism and was an advocate for women’s rights as well as being a peace activist. In 1910, an International Women’s Conference was organised in Copenhagen.

Den första gången jag träffade Lenin sedan den ryska revolution ”som skakade världen” hade inletts, var tidigt på hösten 1920. Det var omedelbart efter min ankomst till Moskva, under ett partimöte i Sverdlovsalen i Kreml, om jag inte missminner mig. Vid valet 1920 kom Zetkin in i riksdagen för kommunistpartiet och var sedan riksdagsledamot till 1933, då Hitler utestängde partiet från riksdagen. Clara Zetkin, som sedan 1921 varit medlem i Kominterns verkställande utskott, gick då i exil i Sovjetunionen. Hon avled samma år och begravdes vid Kremlmuren.

Clara Zetkin blev en av de mest framträdande kvinnorna i den socialistiska rörelsen i Europa. 1907 tog hon initiativ till den första internationella socialistiska kvinnokonferensen. Den hölls i Stuttgart, och där krävde hon att alla socialistpartier skulle kämpa för kvinnors rösträtt.
